Form Check

Who needs a form check?

- Any beginner or novice lifter wanting to begin their strength training journey in a safe, supervised manner

Does competence build confidence?

This is the best option for the novice lifter looking to get stronger and develop confidence in moving safely and effectively with a barbell. Our 1-on-1 sessions with our Physio and strength and conditioning expert will guide you through every step of the way. This is the exact blueprint you’ve been looking for in starting your strength training journey.

Welcome to the beginning of your strength training journey!

  • -EVALUATE

We look at the human body from a biomechanical perspective and see what limitations the body has in obtaining safe, efficient form during the main lifts.

  • -REINFORCE

We take you through your second form check session at another time and re-cover the previous week’s lifts to reinforce your understanding and progress the neuromuscular adaptations of your body. Here you will experience lifting heavier weights compared to the previous week.

  • -CEMENT

We bring you into the clinic for your final form check and run you through a portion of your program, as you would when you are on your own. This gives you the opportunity to ask further questions and cement what you have learned over the previous few weeks.

What is involved?

Our specialised form checks cover the main four barbell lifts (squat, deadlift, bench and press), and integrate a pre-screening mobility and core assessment within the hour-long session. The form check is a series of 3 sessions that Evaluate, Reinforce and Cement an individual’s learning, understanding and confidence in their movement patterns.

Who can do a form check?

Form checks are available for people new to barbell training and wanting to increase their strength. We have people in the general population beginning their journey and sporting individuals looking to elevate their game.

Is this for me?

The form check series is the best value service we offer that takes you from a complete beginner with a barbell to having the confidence in lifting while following your personalised 4-week beginner program at your gym! We know how the body learns and we don’t tell you how to catch the fish, we show you how to fish. This is a lifelong skill you will always take with you.

What if I want more?

We are glad you asked!

The form check is split into 2 main phases. The complete beginner phase which has been explained above. Phase 2 is an extension of Phase 1. In Phase 2 we look at testing more movement patterns incorporating bodyweight and power-based movements and then introducing them into your new program. If you want to learn the power clean or snatch and other power movements that will help you or your sport, then we cover these in Phase 2.
